Paterson Water Meter Replacement Program

The Passaic Valley Water Commission (PVWC) is committed to providing superior service to our residents, and as part of this commitment, we need to periodically change out our water meters. PVWC is about to begin a Water Meter Replacement Project in Paterson. Customers with meters that have surpassed the meters lifespan will receive notification letters from National Metering Services, Inc. Participation in the Water Meter Replacement Program is mandatory. All water customers will have their meters updated to automated reading device. The PVWC is replacing meters as they are beginning to approach the end of their useful projected life span. There is no additional cost to the customer with this update.

The PVWC has recently awarded a contract to National Metering Services, Inc. to begin replacing meters and reading systems, which consists of approximately 6,640 of our customer’s meters and Radio Frequency Meter Interface Units (RFMIUs). Customers who are due to have their meter replaced during this phase will receive a letter from National Metering Service, Inc., with instructions on how to schedule an appointment. Generally, the water service interruption and installation duration lasts less than one hour.

Access to your home or place of business to install the new meter and radio equipment will be required. Your water meter is either located inside of your home or in an outside vault. For installation to take place, someone 18 years of age or older must be present at the time of installation and the area in front of and around the water meter should be cleared and made accessible. National Metering Services, Inc.’s installers are always required to be in uniform and have identification badges displayed. The installers drive company vehicles that are appropriately marked with the company name & logo. Technicians will also carry a PVWC Contractor badge to reinforce their credibility and authenticity.
