Project Description:

The Passaic Valley Water Commission (PVWC) will be replacing approximately 1,600 linear feet of aging water main along Lafayette Avenue in Passaic from Passaic Avenue to High Street as part of its ongoing infrastructure improvement program. The existing water mains in this area date back to approximately 1899–1910 and have reached the end of their useful service life.

This project is designed to improve system reliability, enhance water quality, reduce the likelihood of water main breaks, and maintain dependable water service for residents and businesses in the area. The new main will also help improve available fire flows and overall fire protection capabilities within the neighborhood.

Construction will be completed by The Shauger Group.


Scope of Work:

Construction activities are expected to include:

  • Installation of new water main piping
  • Replacement of valves and related appurtenances
  • Transfer of existing water services to the new main
  • Hydrant reconnections and upgrades as needed
  • Improvements to system flow capacity to support enhanced fire protection
  • Final roadway and surface restoration

Residents and businesses may experience temporary traffic impacts, parking restrictions, construction noise, and brief interruptions to water service during portions of the work. Advance notice will be provided whenever possible before planned water service interruptions.

Construction schedules are weather dependent and subject to change. Work hours are expected to occur during normal daytime construction periods.

Drivers and pedestrians are encouraged to use caution when traveling through active work zones and follow all posted signage and traffic control directions.

    Residents and businesses in the area may experience temporary traffic impacts, detours, parking restrictions, construction noise, and brief water service interruptions during portions of the project. Advance notice will be provided whenever possible prior to planned service interruptions. PVWC is working closely with the Passaic Police Department to help minimize traffic impacts and assist commuters traveling through the area.
