PVWC Announces Lafayette Ave Water Main Replacement in Passaic, NJ
(Clifton, N.J. – May 22, 2026) – Passaic Valley Water Commission (PVWC) will begin a major water main replacement project along Lafayette Avenue from Passaic Avenue to High Street (in Passaic) as part of its ongoing infrastructure improvement program.
The project, with an estimated cost of approximately $900,000, will replace about 1,600 linear feet of aging water main dating back to approximately 1899 –1910. Construction is scheduled to begin Tuesday, May 26, 2026, and is anticipated to continue through July 2026. Work will be completed by The Shauger Group.
This infrastructure investment is designed to improve system reliability, enhance water quality, reduce the likelihood of water main breaks, and strengthen fire protection capabilities within the neighborhood.
“This project is one of the many improvements we continue to make in our water distribution system to ensure the communities we serve continue to have a secure and reliable supply of high-quality drinking water,” said PVWC Executive Director Jim Mueller.
Construction activities will include installation of new water main piping, valve replacements, hydrant reconnections, water service transfers, and final roadway restoration. Construction schedules are weather dependent and subject to change. Work hours are expected to occur during normal daytime business hours.
Residents and businesses in the area may experience temporary traffic impacts, detours, parking restrictions, construction noise, and brief water service interruptions during portions of the project. Advance notice will be provided whenever possible prior to planned service interruptions. PVWC is working closely with the Passaic Police Department to help minimize traffic impacts and assist commuters traveling through the area.
